A fellowship-trained sports medicine physician with training in sports performance and sports nutrition, Dr. Redden has honed his craft by helping high-school, college, and professional athletes, in addition to UFC fighters and Olympic gymnasts, to reach their full potential. Additionally, Dr. Redden regularly helps “weekend warriors” to perform their best and get back in the game.

Years of learning have helped Dr. Redden to expand his expertise in injury prevention, injury diagnosis, injury treatment, performance optimization, and return-to-play training. Dr. Redden applies his knowledge of orthopedics, fitness, nutrition, and athletics to his sports medicine programs. With experience as an athlete, coach, and physician in football, track & field, combat sports, bodybuilding, powerlifting, and many other athletic activities, Dr. Redden brings a diverse set of skills to the table.

Dr. Redden has been trained in and has ample real-world experience in advising athletes of all levels on pertinent medical concerns. For those who want to avoid re-injury, rehab from past injuries, or build up strength to avoid sport-specific injuries, such as shoulder and elbow issues in baseball pitchers,

Sports Psychology

Often neglected but ultimately pivotal to success in the hyperphysical world of competitive athletics are psychology and mental well-being. Since suffering his back injury, then diving headfirst into powerlifting and bodybuilding before competing on NBC’s athletic competition series Titan Games, Dr. Redden has learned to maintain mental toughness and well-being at the highest levels.

These days, Dr. Redden uses his personal and professional training to pass on the lessons he’s learned to his patients. Whether it be psychological skills development, gameday mindset preparation, post-injury mental recovery, performance enhancement, team communication, or managing stress and anxiety, Dr. Redden has the skills to help athletes be mentally elite.

Concussion management

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury usually caused by a blow to the head, violent shaking, of the head and upper body. Symptoms can vary widely but include headache, confusion, dizziness, memory problems, and sometimes loss of consciousness. Proper rest and gradual return to activities are key components of concussion management to ensure full recovery.

Dr. Redden routinely sees athletes who have sustained concussion and works with them closely to ensure an appropriate return to sport and activity is obtained. Concussion can have such a wide array of symptoms it’s important to have access to a multidisciplinary team for treatment, Dr. Redden utilizes a large network of local resources and collaborative providers to assist with each phase of healing.

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport or RED-S

Previously described as female athlete triad, now appropriately named RED-S as it does pertain to male athletes as well. RED-S occurs when an athlete doesn’t consume enough energy to support both their training needs and basic bodily functions. This can lead to various issues affecting performance such as hormone imbalances, decreased bone health, menstrual irregularities in females, compromised immune function and cardiac abnormalities. Its critical for athletes to maintain a balanced energy intake to support their training demands and overall health.
